Meet the SAS Staff

Laura Choiniere, Director

Laura Choiniere is the Director of Student Accessibility Services. She has worked at Roger Williams University since 1996 and is a Roger Williams College alum, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation.  Laura earned her Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is a native of Rhode Island and has also lived in Boston and the Netherlands. Her professional interests include how brains learn, the high school to college transition, and helping students understand their learning style. Laura’s personal interests include Corgis, classic films, flying in open cockpit bi-planes, and learning new languages.

Kathryn Zimmerman, Assistant Director

Kathryn is the Assistant Director of the Student Accessibility Services office. Kathryn is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts and has worked for Roger Williams University since 2020. She earned her B.A. in Severe Special Education, M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University, and is currently earning her Doctorate in Education (Higher Education Administration) from Northeastern University; A double husky, if you will. Kathryn has numerous years of experience at the elementary, middle, and higher education levels, both public and private. Kathryn's personal interests include spending time with loved ones, kayaking the ocean, attending football games, and traveling. 

Patsie Almonte, Administrative Assistant

Patsie Almonte is the Student Accessibility Service office’s Administrative Assistant. Patsie has been an employee at Roger Williams University since 2006 and in SAS since 2010. She also has earned her Certification in Medical Assisting. Patsie oversees the daily tasks of the SAS office, including, but not limited to initial intake information distribution, notetaking services, and exam accommodation integration. She is a lifelong resident of Rhode Island and is the proud mother of three boys. Patsie’s personal interests include interior design, home décor, baking, shopping, and watching the Hallmark Channel.
