RWU Dance & Performance Studies Program Auditions:

We strongly encourage in-person auditions so each dancer can: 

  • Participate in an energetic and fun technique class, alongside current RWU dancers. 
  • Participate in an informal Q&A with Dance faculty and students, many of whom are double majors. 
  • Perform their own solo with the support of a live audience. 
  • Arrange a personalized campus tour prior to the audition! 

*If a dancer is unable to make an audition, online submissions will be accepted until Feb. 22, 2022.

Guest Artist Roster 

Hollis Bartlett & Nattie Trogdan are Brooklyn-based choreographers, performers, practitioners, and partners. They create dance works and research-based practices around rigor and repetition, ghosts and vessels, weight (and wait), objectivity and subjectivity, their shared lineage and embodied relationship.

Ashley Rich started her technical training at a young age, fell in love with it, and has immersed herself in dance education ever since. Her professional training includes Ballet, Jazz, Horton, Hip-Hop, and Contemporary. Some of her achievements include being a finalist on the 8th Season of So You Think You Can Dance and attending the prestigious Ailey School in NYC, home of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Ashley performs, choreographs, and teaches nationally - and is featured in several music videos. Teaching, judging, and touring engagements have included: Ingredients Dance Training Program and Company (Dallas, TX), Dance Revolution Conventions, Turn It Up Dance Challenge, Earthshakers National Dance Competition, and Downtown Dance Factory (NYC). 

Aretha Aoki is a choreographer, performer, educator and mother originally from unceded Coast Salish territory (Vancouver, B.C.) and currently residing on occupied land belonging to the Wabanaki Confederacy (Maine).  Aretha’s work has been performed at the Powell Street Festival (Vancouver, Canada) Kansas City Art Institute (MO), the Kraine Theater (NYC), Judson Church (NYC), Portland Ballet Theater (ME), Franco Center (ME), School for Contemporary Dance and Thought (Northampton, MA), Brooklyn Studios for Dance, A.P.E Gallery Ltd. (MA), Danspace Project (NYC), the Academy of Music (MA), Movement Research Festival (NYC), Center for Performance Research (NYC), Catch (NYC), Exit Art Gallery (NYC, Culturebot’s “Ephemeral Evidence”), New York Live Arts (2011/12 Fresh Tracks artist), the Kitchen (NYC, Emily Roysdon’s A Gay Bar Called Everywhere), the Chen Dance Center (NYC, 2010 Newsteps artist-in-residence), the Firehall Arts Centre (Vancouver, BC), AUNTS (Brooklyn, NY), the 92nd St. Y (NYC), and Studio 303 (Montreal, QC, 2007 Vernissage-danse artist in residence). She was the Dance Consultant for the theater production, Babette’s Feast (2018), which premiered at Portland Stage (ME) and had an Off-Broadway run at the Theater at St. Clement’s.

Bryn Cohn is an award-winning choreographer and the artistic director of Bryn Cohn + Artists (BC + A). She has presented work at Jacob’s Pillow, Danspace Project, Bryant Park, Hudson Valley Dance Festival, 92nd Street Y and REDCAT Theater. Cohn was nominated for a Princess Grace Fellowship and won REGALIA, a choreography competition on Repertory Dance Theatre. She participated in the New Directions Choreography Lab at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater - a creative residency supported by the Ford Foundation. Cohn has been commissioned by Louis Vuitton, Smartwater, BalletCollective (dancers of New York City Ballet), Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Los Angeles Ballet and Billy Bell’s Lunge Dance. She was in artistic residence at Cal State Fullerton, Texas Christian University, University of Minnesota Duluth, Stockton University, University at Buffalo and Grand Valley State University among other institutions. Cohn received a full feature in Dance Teacher Magazine and is currently on faculty at AMDA College and Hussian College. She received a BFA from CalArts and a MFA from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as a High Honors, Chancellor’s and Regent’s award recipient.

Banned Books Soap Box Event

STAND

Free and open to others who may want to participate

RWU dancers participate in the 7th annual STAND – an advocacy event where participants take one hour to move from a prone position to standing - a kinetic metaphor to honor victims of domestic violence.  In partnership with RWU Title IX.
