The Dance Theatre
The Roger Williams University Dance Theatre is the university dance company, open by audition to any qualified person. The department presents three major concert series each year.
Our goal is to acquaint both the University, the state and the region with Dance, Performance Art and Movement Theatre through workshops, master classes, lecture- demonstrations, site and concert performances.
Each year, the Dance Theatre participates in the American College Dance Festival in various parts of the country. The company has been invited several times to perform at the prestigious National Gala Concert of the American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The company was chosen for outstanding choreographic and performance ability from among hundreds of performances held throughout the nation. The adjudicators for these festivals are nationally and internationally acclaimed artists in the field of Dance and Performance.
The company has performed in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York State, and Providence. Our students have been recognized with a national Dance Magazine, choreography nomination and scholarship nominations from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, The Nikolais/Louis Lab, and the American College Dance Festival Association for performance ability, resulting in study in New York City and at the American Dance Festival.
The students are often asked to perform in various venues and for K-12 students throughout the New England area. These activities provide enormous national and regional exposure for the University.The company has also performed in festival gala concerts in New York City, Boston, Virginia, Philadelphia, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Rhode Island.
