The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) refers to the research into the process of learning in order to inform improvements in teaching. The Rhode Island Teaching & Learning Network (RITL) sponsored its first collaborative event focused on SoTL on June 7, 2016, hosted by University of Rhode Island at their Alton Jones campus. A group of RWU faculty joined colleagues from across RI at this workshop led by Dr. Michele DiPietro from Kennesaw State College who authored How Learning Works: 7 Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching. The workshop was interactive and focused on participants planning for their SoTL projects for the 2016-17 year. The RWU participants in the SoTL Summer Institute were: Paul Bender, Linda Beith, Meg Case, Bob Dermody, Kelly Donnell, Jason Jacobs, and Marcie Recher.

This event will hopefully be the first of many SoTL projects at RWU.
