RWU COVID-19 Update

To the RWU Community,

With the health and well-being of our campus community as our top priority, and in alignment with guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) to initiate aggressive containment measures, Roger Williams University is enacting plans to transition to online and alternate modes of instruction for as long as necessary this semester. In order to be fully prepared to transition to contingency plans, the University is extending our student spring break by one week.

While there are no known cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) within our campus community, we are taking these steps to limit exposure to the virus among our community, their families, and our neighbors.

Within the next 24 hours, we will be sending further detailed communications advising the RWU community on how campus operations will be impacted, resources available, self-monitoring for COVID-19, and preventive measures for students, faculty and staff. At this time, please be advised that students may not return to campus and that the residence halls and dining halls will be closed until further notice. Faculty and staff will continue operations as usual in order to begin preparations for remote instruction.

The communication will also provide times and procedures for students to enter their residence hall rooms and retrieve essential belongings, and specific information for international students, spring student athletes, and student teachers. In addition, an update regarding future access to residence halls and campus facilities will be provided every Wednesday evening for as long as necessary.

We have also developed a dedicated university website for coronavirus information where you will find the most up-to-date information and resources; you can visit that website at: rwu.edu/covid-19.

Our Emergency Response Team is meeting daily and will provide regular updates. Please check your email for the next communications, which we trust will answer many questions you may have about these next steps.

Sincerely,
RWU Emergency Response Team
