RWU AIAS Chapter featured at AIAS Grassroots National Conference

AIAS Grassroots National Conference

RWU’s American Institute of Architecture Students chapter (RWU AIAS) Freedom by Design Project “Garden of Hope” was featured in a short documentary film at the annual Grassroots Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. The film was produced to inaugurate the partnership between AIAS National and the National Council of Architectural Accrediting Boards (NCARB) to support the Freedom by Design service component of the AIAS.

The project had previously been recognized with an award for best project in the country (over $10,000), and was designed and constructed by RWU architecture students at the Bristol Community Center. The garden was supported by the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation and built in memory of Laurie Cordero, who conceived the garden as a place of reflection and meditation for those affected with breast cancer. The garden was dedicated on what would have been Ms. Cordeiro’s 53rd birthday.

7 members of the RWU AIAS executive board attended the conference along with chapter advisor and Associate Dean Greg Laramie.
