At the 2024 Summer Research Showcase, dozens of students across numerous disciplines presented innovative solutions to pressing global and local issues.
A hub of laboratories, project rooms and open spaces dedicated to hands-on, collaborative teaching and learning.
Welcome to the Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories, a hub of labs, project rooms and open spaces dedicated to hands-on, collaborative teaching and learning. With our focus on experiential learning and cutting-edge industry trends, the School of Engineering, Computing and Construction Management (SECCM) develops students equipped with the skills and real-world experiences to meet the challenges facing the engineering and design build industries. SECCM faculty have a state-of-the-art facility to deliver the highest quality educational experience to our students – the next generation of engineering, computing and construction management professionals. Boasting 100 percent placement into jobs or graduate school, SECCM's enrollment continues to grow, and the Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories will accommodate future growth by providing a collaborative hub for applied learning.
Located in the heart of campus, the three-story building gives students the opportunity to test designs and apply new skills in a laboratory environment. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and tools, the Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories is RWU's commitment to ensuring that our exceptional academic programs include a rigorous, cutting-edge experiential component.
During the construction phase, the Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories was a “living laboratory” for student learning. Our project partner Shawmut Construction and Design provided behind-the-scenes access and real-time construction lessons for students, while our professors built hands-on lessons about the Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories into courses.
Against the backdrop of bulldozers poised in the midst of constructing the building, Roger Williams University held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 25, for the new Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories. Also at the ceremony, the University announced it is naming the building for Richard L. Bready, the former Nortek Inc. CEO and Chairman who is concluding 11 years as chair of the RWU Board of Trustees.
Shawmut Design and Construction is the construction management firm leading the Richard L. Bready Applied Learning Laboratories project. In addition to their extensive experience in academic construction, Shawmut is one of the top employers of RWU graduates and they will be collaborating with SECCM faculty to deliver an educational program on all aspects of the project delivery.
