Chunyan Yannie Bai has been a full-time faculty member of School of Engineering, Computing and Construction Management at Roger Williams University since August 2004. She earned her PhD (2004) and M.S. (2001) degrees in Computer Science from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She earned her M.E. (1998) and B.E. (1995) degrees in Information Transmission and Computer Communications from Xidian University in China. Dr. Bai is a senior member of IEEE. She is currently an ABET/CAC program evaluator and actively involved in College Board AP Computer Science reading and evaluating.

Dr. Bai’s research experience started with her Master’s thesis in the area of applying artificial intelligence and coding theory to information transmission. She continued her interest in error correcting codes and extended to focus on enhancement of system security in an algebraic way. Her doctoral dissertation titled Enhancing Network and Information Security via Error Correcting Codes.

While at RWU, her main research activity has continued to be security related. She constantly supervises undergraduate research projects, which resulted in joint publications and NCUR (National Conference on Undergraduate Research) and POH (Posters on the Hill) student presentations. She also collaborated with RWU biology and criminal justice faculty on research and curriculum development.

At Roger Williams, she teaches COMSC110-Introduction to Computer Science, COMSC111-Data Structures, COMSC420 – Principles of Operating Systems, COMSC440-Language Translation and Compiler Design, COMSC331/BIO 331- Bioinformatics Lab, COMSC450-Mobile App Programming for Computer Science program, as well as SEC340- Introduction to Cryptography for Network Security program. She also taught ENGR115 – Computer Applications for Engineering, ENGR240 – Fundamentals of Circuit Theory and ENGR270 – Digital Systems Design for Engineering program.
