Meet Student Library Assistant Victoria Fortado

What was your first impression of RWU?  I just loved it. I totally fell in love with the campus. My cousin is a student here and he strongly encouraged me to consider RWU. I’m so glad that I did.

What can other schools learn from RWU?  RWU makes an effort to get students involved in campus life. I’m always receiving emails about clubs that I can join—that’s made it a lot easier to meet people and become part of the campus community.

Why were you interested in working in the library? I love to read, so it seemed like a natural fit.

Have you learned anything while working at the library that has helped you in your studies? Absolutely. Working here has taught me better searching skills. It’s much easier for me to find books and material that I need, and I’ve discovered how to use the research guides created by the librarians.  I’ve also learned how to get books from other academic libraries.

What can we do better here at the library? Coffee! There should be coffee in the library.

What are we doing right? There are tons of resources, and everyone is very helpful. I also love that the library is advocating for OER textbooks. Several of my professors are participating in the OER program, and that saves me money. Having computers and printers in the library is very handy, and MediaTech does a great job.

What makes you happy? Hanging out with my friends and family makes me happy. I love school, and I like to help other people.

What annoys you? I don’t like disrespectful people or impatience.

Where in the world would you most like to travel?  Why? I want to go to Greece. It looks like such a beautiful place; I want to experience that beauty first hand.

What’s your dream job? I want to be a therapist for children and young adults.

How do you want to help the world? Through my work. I firmly believe that helping one person at a time can have a positive ripple effect on the world.

Who is your role model? My mom. She’s a single parent, and she is the most loving, hard- working, down-to-earth person I know. She inspires me to be a better person.

Does anyone else inspire you? Yes, my professors. All the professors I’ve had here at RWU have taught me so much already. They are so knowledgeable and overall great role models.
