GSB Marketing and Communications

Job Description

This role will support the student’s academic progress in multiple ways.  The student will learn bot print marketing and digital marketing skills as well as how to identify and document the associated tasks with each skill and turn those skills into written procedures. They will learn how to implement those procedures and how to analyze the effectiveness of the presentations. These are important skills in any business related profession and this experience will enhance their academic progress, as they are able to relate and apply the skills they learn to their academic work as well as apply what they learn in the classroom to this position. They will also learn how to identify new marketing opportunities and develop strategies to capitalize upon those opportunities.

Year 1
Responsibility/Function

  • Develop skills in the areas of writing, interviewing, and editing for the departmental newsletter, digital information boards, social media and/or web pages, and may include training in photography.
  • Learn how to use RISE Vision (Digital Information Boards).
  • Learn how to use Canva and Adobe Spark to layout the articles for the print version of the newsletter.
  • Learn how to convert the print version of the newsletter to a digital version.
  • Learn how to create different types of presentations (RISE Vision templates vs. custom-made slides).
  • Learn how to implement consistency across RISE Boards (branding) including using consistent colors, consistent fonts and consistent styles.
  • Learn how to design marketing advertisements for guest speakers, club activities, and other social professional activities for the GSB community
  • Learn to market and implement special events such as the freshman ice cream social, the Dean’s List event, and others to improve student attendance and engagement both in person and on digital platforms.
  • Identify GSB social media opportunities to reach current students, prospective students and keep alumni engaged.
  • Learn general office tasks as needed.

Year 2
Responsibility/Function

  • Continued development of skills in the areas of writing, interviewing, and editing for the departmental newsletter, social media and/or web pages, and photography.
  • Outline the steps necessary to establish a permanent set of guidelines and a list of reoccurring tasks to be implemented each semester to ensure consistency in publication of the marketing materials.
  • Develop a procedure that outlines the steps necessary to market and implement special GSB.
  • Develop awareness campaigns for various GSB marketing & communication outlets to contribute to diversity and global awareness.
  • Develop guidelines and ideas for digital and print marketing to present for approval of the Deans.
  • Assist with general office tasks as needed.

Year 3
Responsibility/Function

  • Continue creating and publishing both print and digital presentations with improvement in graphic design.
  • Finalize the development of a procedure for creating RISE Presentations by utilizing the outline created in Year 2 to create a detailed “how-to” guide for future GSB Marketing & Communication Mentors.
  • Implement the procedure completed above.
  • Finalize the development for marketing and implementing GSB special events.
  • Establish a process/procedure for implementing ideas approved by the Deans for GSB’s marketing & communication outlets.
  • Begin mentoring potential freshmen interested in applying for the position in their sophomore year.
  • Mentor new office assistants in learning general office tasks.
