Maple Hall

Situated near the center of campus, Maple Hall is the ideal location for those who want a short walk to Lower Commons for a late-night study break or prefer a quick commute to the classroom! Maple is located next to Global Heritage Hall and is a short walk toward the Gabelli School of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, as well as Upper Commons and the Recreation Center.

Maple Hall houses a total of 350 residents in unit-style housing. The reason Maple is so unique is that its living areas are structured as small units of 17 rooms centered on a lounge with several couches, tables, chairs, and a flat-screen TV. Every room in the building is furnished with a bed, bureau, desk, chair, and closet or wardrobe suitable for the number of people in the room. Each restroom is designated as a single-use restroom, which means you can close the door and lock it behind you! It’s kind of like being in the comfort of your own home.

As we’ve mentioned, Maple Hall is set up in a unit-like structure. While most of our units are identical, there are a few subtle differences. We’ll explain below:

Units 2-8, 10-12

Maple has ten identical units. Each of these living areas house 26 residents in eight single and nine double rooms. The unit is divided into four sections, three with two singles and two doubles and one with three doubles. There are two sections on the left of the common room, and two sections on the right. There are also two singles on the same level as the common room. Each unit has its own common room with a large TV that is connected to the campus’ cable TV network.

Units 1, 9, & 14:

Now we’ll get to the really unique units! Let’s start with Unit 1. Just like our other units, Unit 1 also houses 26 residents in eight single and nine double rooms and is divided into four sections, three with two singles and two doubles and one with three doubles. The difference here is that the floor is stacked four-stories high! So, instead of your friends living across the unit from you, they will live just a few stairs up or down.

Unit 9 is pretty unique. Here, you’ll be able to live with 29 of closets friends! They are split up into four single, eleven double, and one triple room. While this unit still has a common room and TV, the unit is split with ½ the rooms up the hall to the left, and ½ to the right of the common room. This unit also has the only air conditioned common room.

Unit 14 is Maple Hall’s newest Unit. It’s fully carpeted and smaller than the other units, so you’ll get the opportunity to really get to know your floor mates! With only 20 residents, this unit is split up into five single, four double, one triple, and one quad room. There are three bathrooms, one to the left and two to the right of the common room.

As far as amenities, each room comes equipped with cable and data hook-up and the whole building is wireless-ready. There are two laundry rooms, located in the basement of the 4/5 tower and the basement of the 9/10/11 tower (to the left of Unit 9). There are also vending machines located in the 4/5 and 9/10/11 towers.

The Queer and Trans Resource and Advocacy Center (QTRAC) is located in the heart of RWU's campus, adjacent to the 9, 10, 11 Tower of Maple Hall. The QTRAC houses our LGBTQIAP+ student organization, the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), our student-led Trans Affinity Group (TAG), and two clubs that are committed to various issues facing womyn in the world, FEM Society and the Women's Collective. Maple Hall is also the home to the Intercultural Center (adjacent to Unit 1).

The Maple Hall staff is comprised of one Community Director (CD), one Head Resident Assistant (HRA), and 12 Resident Assistants (RA). The Community Director serves to oversee the day-to-day operation of the complex, including supervision of the residence hall staff. There is one RA per unit and they live in the first room to the either the right or left as you enter the unit.
