Marianne Monte is chief of staff and head of mergers & acquisitions at Shawmut Design and Construction, a leading $2.3 billion national construction management firm with 1,500 employees nationwide. In this role, Monte leads the strategies and processes that support the due diligence and integration of acquired firms. Previously, she served as chief people & administration officer, where she was responsible for strategy and processes that serve the core operating needs of the firm, including Human Resources, Marketing, Legal, and Information Technology.
Before joining Shawmut in 2015, Monte held human resources leadership positions at The Hanover Insurance Group, Bank Rhode Island, Meeting Street School, and Liberty Mutual. During this time, she and her family lived in London while she worked on the integration of a major acquisition for The Hanover Insurance Group. Before discovering her passion for human resources, Monte began her career as a front-line supervisor at Frito-Lay.
Monte has served on the boards of trustees for The Gordon School and the Rhode Island State Post-Secondary Board of Education. She is currently an active volunteer with Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) and serves in a consultancy role for the Rhode Island Public Health Institute. She is in her second year as an adjunct faculty member at Roger Williams University.
Monte has been recognized as a Best Boss by GlobeSt., a Construction Champion by Construction Dive, a Women of Influence by Crain’s New York Business, a Diversity Champion by GlobeSt., an Outstanding Mentor by Providence Business News, and a Top People Leader by Mogul. She also received the 2017 Providence Business News C-Suite Award in the Chief Human Resources Officer category.
Monte earned her B.A. from Providence College and J.D. from Suffolk Law School.
