Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution at RWU

Join us on January 30, as we commemorate Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution, in collaboration with the RWU Asian American Alliance, Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, AAPI History Museum, Japan–America Society and Black Ships Festival of Rhode Island, Inc®, Communities of Hope, Roger Williams University School of Law, and The Public Humanities & Arts Collaborative (The Co-Lab). 

This event honors the legacy of Fred Korematsu, a civil rights activist who challenged the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, leading to a landmark Supreme Court case, and highlights the ongoing urgency of protecting civil liberties and constitutional rights. The program will include a screening of the film Of Civil Wrongs and Rights, followed by remarks from state and community leaders, and a discussion on the significance of establishing Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties in Rhode Island as a day for promoting greater civic engagement.
