Graduate Assistant: Student Accessibility Services

The Graduate Assistant for Student Accessibility Services (SAS) plays a central role in advancing equitable access, student success, and inclusive practices across the RWU community. This position blends direct student support, case management, programming, testing operations, and campus-wide collaboration to ensure students with disabilities can fully engage in the academic experience.   The GA serves as both a student-facing support and operational partner, supporting daily SAS functions while contributing to strategic initiatives, outreach, and program development. This role emphasizes self-advocacy, student empowerment, and inclusive excellence. The Student Accessibility Services Graduate Assistant will report directly to the SAS Director.

Core Responsibilities

  • Student Support & Case Management
  • Meet with students to support access, skill development, and academic success.
  • Provide ongoing case management and outreach in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Participate in weekly case review meetings, contributing to coordinated, student-centered intervention planning.
  • Promote self-advocacy and self-determination, guiding students in navigating academic and campus systems.

Programming, Partnership & Education Outreach

  • Provide case management for a small population of students
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and programming on accessibility, learning strategies, internship/career resources, and inclusive practices for students.
  • Support and expand initiatives such as the Neurodiverse Network and other student engagement opportunities.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of campus-wide accessibility training and educational materials.
  • Contribute to marketing and communications for SAS programs and events.
  • Participate in campus-wide programming and outreach efforts to increase visibility and engagement.

Sensory Spaces & Student Experience

  • Oversee and manage Sensory Friendly Spaces and Sensory Study Spaces, ensuring they are welcoming, functional, and responsive to student needs.
  • Advertise, plan and implement structured study sessions and sensory-friendly events.
  • Monitor usage and contribute to continuous improvement of inclusive environments on campus.

Operations & Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate, confidential student records in compliance with ADA, Section 504, and FERPA.
  • Assist with data tracking, reporting, and documentation to support departmental goals.
  • Support front desk operations, including phone and student-facing coverage as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, supervision, and professional development opportunities.

Testing & Academic Accommodations

  • Partner with SAS Administrative Assistant to coordinate and manage testing accommodations through SAS systems (e.g., Clockwork), ensuring compliance, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Serve as a primary/backup proctor, maintaining exam integrity and adherence to approved accommodations.
  • Communicate clearly with faculty and students regarding testing processes and expectations.
  • Scan, upload, and return exams in alignment with SAS protocols.
  • Support alternative format materials and preparation for students with visual or other access needs.

Required Qualifications 

  • Must be current or accepted RWU graduate student (Education, Psychology, Law, or related field preferred)
  • Be in good academic and judicial standing with the University and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency with computer software applications
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in education, counseling, disability services, or student support
  • Interest in neurodiversity, accessibility, and inclusive program development
  • Experience with presentations, training, or student engagement initiatives

Must be a current graduate student accepted at RWU. This role will be available for the 2026-2027 academic year.

May work 10-12 hours/week, paid at $20/hour up to $4,000 per academic year.
