About the Spanish Major
The study of Spanish at RWU goes beyond language acquisition. Students will develop their cultural sensibilities and demonstrate an awareness of cultural differences.
Spanish Placement Test
RWU Modern Language Department offers Spanish, Italian, Chinese and American Sign Language (ASL)
If you learned one of these languages in school or in your community, or simply if you are familiar with one or more of these languages, please take the language placement survey to place yourself.
If you did not learn a modern language in school or your community and are not familiar with the languages, you are not required to take the survey, but are encouraged to take a beginning language course: SPN 101, ITAL 101, CHN 101, or ASL 101.

Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world, with nearly 60 million speakers in the United States. At RWU, students fully immerse themselves in the language and explore the specificities and complexities of Hispanic and Latinx culture at various language levels. They learn the use of Spanish in different contexts, from everyday communication to professional and academic settings.
