PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Roger Williams University has awarded a $50,000 operational grant to HousingWorks RI and has begun integrating HousingWorks RI into its University Relations Division. The integration represents a synergy between the strategic objectives of the University and the research, policy and communications work of HousingWorks RI.

“This partnership provides the people of Rhode Island with key fact-based information on affordable housing and the economy in the Ocean State,” said Peter Wilbur, Associate Vice President for University Relations. “HousingWorks RI provides excellent experiential learning opportunities to Roger Williams University students and the integration of HousingWorks RI into Roger Williams University is a real win-win for Rhode Island and the University.”

Roger Williams University has long valued a campus-wide commitment to the greater community. The University maintains a wide array of partnerships and initiatives that extend beyond the borders of campus and engage faculty and student expertise on a wide range of topics.

“Roger Williams University has once again shown Rhode Islanders its commitment to our state.  The $50,000 operational grant provides key support to HousingWorks RI and will provide critical housing research that informs our leaders,” said Ian Lang, Board Chair of HousingWorks RI. “The integration of HousingWorks RI into Roger Williams University is yet another example of the University’s commitment to providing real-life experiences to its students that prepare them for obtaining jobs in today’s competitive economy.”

HousingWorks RI started as a campaign and initiative of United Way of Rhode Island, Rhode Island Housing, and the Rhode Island Foundation. Its signature publication, the annual Housing Fact Book, offers affordability data for each of Rhode Island’s 39 cities and towns along with analysis on housing and the economy.

“Affordable housing is a critical part of the state’s economic infrastructure,” said Allan Stein, Executive Vice President at United Way of Rhode Island.  “HousingWorks RI provides valuable data and policy guidance to a wide range of stakeholders. We look forward to continuing this important work as the organization proceeds with this integration.”
