Curriculum

All courses are based on US Sailing’s Learn Sailing Right and follow US Sailing’s certification guidelines for the Small Boat Sailor. Instructors are all Level 1 Certified by US Sailing and have up-to-date First Aid and CPR. Curriculum will include: safety, seamanship, wind direction, sail trim and points of sail, proper rigging and derigging, basic knots, maneuvering: tack and gybes, departure and landing, capsizing and recovery.

Boats Used

The boats used will be Flying Juniors (FJs), a 2-person self-rescuing dinghy. The boats have 2 sails and are ~14’ long. They are popular boat for instruction and training and work well for beginner lessons.

Inclement Weather

If the weather is not safe for students to be on the water, the athletic and recreational facilities will be available for off the water instruction. Classes cancelled will not be made up.

Please contact Amanda Callahan via phone (x5325) or email if you have any questions about the lessons.
