I introduce first-year students to academic writing; specifically, how to outline and craft essays in a variety of styles, read and critically analyze essays, offer peer review advice to fellow students, and engage in database research.
A key teaching focus is to emphasize writing and research as an ongoing process and to always show how writing techniques and course vocabulary fit their daily lives.

As a primarily comic actor, I try to bring at least a smile to student faces, if not a laugh. Life is too short to be glum, though it is easy in trying times. One of my favorite authors since college is Nathaniel Hawthorne, who said: "Don't lament for life's wasted sunshine." Also, as a practicing Taoist and meditator, I likeHawthorne's comment that if one is feeling down, they should try something new, and not just read a magazine but study, think, and overcome a challenge.
