Practicing architecture in Guatemala involves facing unique conditions that invite strategic, contextual, and committed thinking. Founded in 2016 by Hans Schwarz Bassila and Jorge Villatoro, Taller ACÁ is an architectural and urban design practice based in Guatemala City, dedicated to creating human-centered spaces.

Operating within an environment defined by rapid urban growth, complex social dynamics, and territorial diversity, the firm approaches design with a long-term responsibility. For Taller ACÁ, architecture is not an individual pursuit, but a collaborative practice that seeks to honor local resources, build through open dialogue, and listen closely to the people who inhabit the city.

The studio has developed projects across Latin America. Its work was selected to exhibit at the Bienal de Arquitectura Latinoamericana (BAL 2025), which showcases emerging Latin American architects under 40. The practice has also received First Place at the Rome Public Space Biennial (2017), recognition at the Guatemala Architecture Biennial (2021, 2023), and a nomination for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP).
