Emiliano López Mónica Rivera Arquitectos
Barcelona, Spain
Exhibition
October 20 - November 30, 2026
ARCH 121 Gallery
This exhibition presents a selection of dwelling projects over twenty-five years of practice in Barcelona. Each project is represented by its main floor plan at a metric scale of 1:50, together with a selection of photographs.
The floor plan is the primary instrument through which Lopez-Rivera develops designs. Its constant redrawing and refinement, driven by the search for precise adjacencies among spaces, uses, and thermal gradients — always within the strict regulatory constraints on practice — have led to a wide diversity of formal, material, and geometric outcomes.
Lopez-Rivera are not interested in a priori formal ideas. Instead, form is arrived at through a process in which they prioritize ease of everyday use, the emotional quality of domestic spaces, and the seasonal comfort achieved through careful sequencing and the filtering of sunlight and views. The orientation of each space relative to the sun is one of their principal concerns when calibrating this sequence, in consideration of both energy and well-being. For this reason, every floor plan in the exhibition is presented with the same solar orientation.
The exhibition is accompanied by a lecture in which Lopez-Rivera present a series of hand-drawn sketches on tracing paper for some of the projects that best exemplify this line of inquiry.
