Athletic Communications Student Assistant

Job Description

Looking for a student who is interested in helping the Athletics Department with marketing and promotions of our varsity sports. There will be emphasis in the area of video, photography and graphic design.

Consideration will be given to those who major or minor in the following areas: Journalism, Marketing, Communications/Media Studies, Photography/Digital Media, and/or Graphic Design Communications.

The student will learn the following:

  • How to interact with people in the department and on campus
  • How to engage with various social media platforms
  • Graphic Design
  • Video Editing
  • Web Design
  • The ins/outs of how an Athletic Department operates   

Year 1 ~ Responsibility/Function

  • Weekly Promotional Fliers
  • Use social media to help drive up attendance to events
  • Use social media to promote special events in Athletics
  • Pre-Season and Post-Season Team updates
  • Student-Athlete and Coach Interviews

Year 2 ~ Responsibility/Function

The second year, the Intern will help expand Athletics Departments’ presence on social media platforms. The Intern will create videos of coaches and student-athletes. These videos could include upcoming season previews, post-game interviews, and special accomplishment/special interest videos. These interviews will be used for the website, as well as social media.

Year 3 ~ Responsibility/Function

Oversee all Marketing and Promotions of Athletic events across all print and Social Media avenues.

  • Weekly Promotional Fliers
  • Use social media to help drive up attendance to events
  • Use social media to promote special events in Athletics
  • Video promotion of athletic programs with coach and student-athlete interviews
  • Post-game video interviews with coaches and student-athletes
  • Develop season highlight videos for each sport
  • Pre-Season and Post-Season Team updates
  • Help train a new intern to continue this work in the future

*Students are prohibited from driving during work-study employment with the limited exception of authorized work-study driver positions.
