Construction Management Fundamentals Certificate

Construction Management Fundamentals is a 10-week program, designed for professionals in the construction field looking to effectively manage projects of all sizes. This program meets the needs of professionals working in roles across the industry who are interested in moving into management roles.  Although experience is beneficial, it is not a requirement for successful complete this course. With weekly modules focused on planning, estimating, scheduling, procurement, contracts, and much more, this certificate provides you with the skills needed to efficiently manage people, materials, and equipment. 

Course modality and structure: 
The course is primarily set up as 10 modules delivered over 10 weeks. The weekly class meetings are virtual, live and synchronous; therefore, you can expect to interact with the professor and fellow students. Professor Mike Emmer, PhD, has over 25 years of experience in the field, is a tenured faculty at Roger Williams University and the Coordinator of the undergraduate Construction Management Program.  You can read his bio by scrolling down on this page.

Student engagement and participation:
This course is rigorous and requires attendance, participation and submission of assignments. Please allot time for readings and/or video reviews, and completion of assignments.  At the end of the 10 weeks those who have met the required points will be awarded a certificate of completion.  The certificate will be emailed to the email of record. 

Course Pre-requisite:
At a minimum, registrants must have basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Word (such as creating and utilizing a spreadsheet, maneuvering columns and rows).   If a refresher is needed on that subject, please review videos on YouTube and/or LinkedIn Learning.

Construction Management Advanced Certificate

Our advanced certificate focuses on enhancing and developing your skills in specific specialties. These courses are designed to meet the needs of professionals seeking to advance their skills and knowledge related to specialized concentrations for those in management roles or seeking advancement into such roles. Courses offered under the advanced certification range from 1-day to 5-weeks in length. The individual courses are bundled to qualify for a Construction Management Advanced Certificate. You must complete all foundational and core courses, plus two electives.  

Certificate Requirements

Students should have a computer and be familiar with utilizing the software in the MS Office Suite.

Students should have foundational skills in Plan Reading & Contract Documents (a 1-day workshop is available to develop or refresh these skills).

A Minimum passing grade of 70% for each module is required to receive the Certificate.

Class Meeting Structure

Each course is designed as either a 1-day in-person workshop with 8 instructional hours, or 5-week online on-line modules totaling 15 instructional hours.
