Graduate Assistant: Commuter Assistant

Position Description

Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Student Programs, Leadership and Orientation, the Commuter Graduate Assistant (GA) will serve as a multifaceted asset to the Department of Student Programs, Leadership, and Orientation.    This position will assist in creation of new programming and opportunities while having the opportunity for supervision student staff and building connections.  The GA will have the opportunity to be engaged in a dynamic office that provides student engagement opportunities through clubs, organizations, major campus programming and leadership opportunities for students. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision of the Commuter Assistant staff with Assistant Dean of Students 
  • Co-Advise the Commuters in Action club to provide leadership opportunities for students 
  • Work with Commuter Connection program, which will be a 4 to 6 week certificate program for commuter student engagement
  • Facilitate commuter student interaction by providing programmatic opportunities for commuter student growth, involvement in the Roger community, and engagement with various resources on campus.
  • Work with department Involvement Ambassador program to engage commuter students who are looking to get involved
  • Facilities opening Commuter meeting for new commuter students joining the community
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes and positive actions through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, sensitivity, and professionalism.
  • Coordinate student referrals to appropriate offices for necessary intervention (e.g. Counseling, Health Services, CSAS, Student and Family Assistance.)
  • Work collaboratively within and across divisions on institutional priorities
  • Other duties as may be necessary

Expectations

  • Graduate Assistant must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality policies (and sign confidentiality agreement) when working with students and accessing student records. 
  • Be in good academic and judicial standing with the University.
  • Position may include night and weekend events  

Benefits

  • Hands-on experience in working in a dynamic academic environment.
  • Approximately 8-10 hours/week paid at $15/hour up to $3,000 per academic year.

Placement Term

The position will be effective for the 2024-2025 academic year with the option to be considered for further placement for students pursuing a two-year plan of study.
