Catalyzing Newport is a three-year exploratory initiative supported by the Rhode Island Council on the Humanities and the Van Beuren Charitable Foundation

2001 Historic Preservation alumna Melissa Barker and Dean Stephen White participated as part of the Local Action Team in Catalyzing Newport’s June events, involving projecting two generations forward to the RI city’s Mayor’s Office 2061. The June session was led by Catalyst-in-Residence Jake Dunagan.

Catalyzing Newport is a three-year exploratory initiative supported by the Rhode Island Council on the Humanities and the Van Beuren Charitable Foundation, utilizing visiting scholars to draw on experiences, national and international networks and creative excellence of established experts known as “catalysts” to engage local communities in meaningful exchanges. These then are intended to generate new ideas to translate into bold and imaginative solutions for pressing issues facing the city.
