2016 NE Home Magazine Scholarship Award to RWU AIAS
New England Home Magazine has awarded its 2016 Scholarship Award to the Roger Williams University.
The $5000 award will be used to support the RWU American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Chapter’s current AIAS Freedom By Design project to design and build an Outdoor Classroom and Children’s Arboretum at the Pell School in Newport, RI, in conjunction with the City of Newport and the non-profit Newport Arboretum. The project has completed schematic design, and is creating a living laboratory for sustainability curricular innovation in this K-6 School. AIAS students collaborate with the Pell School’s teachers, Newport Arboretum staff, and with RWU School of Education faculty and students.RWU’s previous AIAS Freedom By Design effort completed in conjunction with the Town of Bristol, RI and the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation designed and built a “Garden of Hope” in Bristol, which received national recognition in 2015.
