Project Status

The rCloud Project is a collaborative effort by the RWU School of Justice Studies Forensics, Advanced Networking and Security (FANS), the Cummings School of Architecture, the University College, the Department of Information Technology (IT), and the Department of Instructional Design (ID). The RWU departments are working with corporate partner Samsung to generate a case study for the implementation of a virtual desktop infrastructure in both a highly graphic-intensive discipline as well as a distance learning service. The goal is to use advanced technology to provide new types of collaborative learning environments that increase accessibility and productivity as well as foster creativity. This project is one more initiative to support the Affordable Excellence Program undertaken by RWU in starting in 2012.

PHASE 3

The 2015-2016 academic year will entail a full rCloud rollout to the entire University community, with groups setup for each individual school. Additional server resources will also be added.

PHASE 2

The 2014-2015 academic year will continue the work done in Phase 1 by bringing in the School of Engineering,  the Library Learning Commons, the Gabelli School of Business and the School of Education into a virtual desktop environment.

PHASE 1

The 2013-2014 academic year will constitute a continuation of Phase 1 of the project. During this year, the project team will be monitoring use of the systems and gathering metrics that will guide future planning for including other Schools.
