Information for Graduate Students

To better serve our graduate students, we will be holding an expanded Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony in addition to our traditional university-wide Commencement.

Event Details

Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony

Exclusive for graduate students, this ceremony will include the conferring of graduate degrees, a special guest speaker, and a reception immediately following the event.

University-Wide Commencement Ceremony
Saturday, May 19, 2018 – 10:00 am – Tent on the Main Athletic Field
While this event is intended primarily for undergraduate students, any graduate students wishing to participate in this event are also invited to attend.  The processional leading into the ceremony will step off at 9:00 am.
Tickets: All graduates can receive up to six (6) tickets for guests to attend the ceremony.  A formal invitation will be mailed to graduates once they have been authorized to appear on the graduation list.

Selecting a Ceremony

Graduate students are welcome to participate in both the Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony on Tuesday and the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, or they may decide to only attend one of their choosing.

A brief survey will be emailed to you in the spring in order for you to indicate which ceremony (or both) you wish to attend.

Eligibility

Only graduate students who have applied for and have been authorized to appear on the graduation list can participate in the Commencement Ceremony. The tentative graduation list will be posted in March on the Registrar’s website.

To be authorized to appear on the graduation list, you must have received financial clearance from the Bursar’s Office and confirmation of graduation status from the Registrar’s Office. Any student whose name does not appear on the list cannot participate in the ceremony under any circumstances. No exceptions will be made. Should you have any questions regarding your status, please contact Anabela Bonanca in the Registrar’s Office at 401-254-3151.

TICKET INFORMATION:

Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony Tickets:

Each graduate can receive up to six (6) tickets for guests to attend this ceremony.  RSVP will be required.

University-Wide Commencement Ceremony Tickets:

Each graduate will receive six (6) tickets for seating under the Commencement tent. Small children who will be sitting on a lap are not required to have a ticket. Fire regulations prohibit any guest to stand on the outskirts of the tent. Everyone must be seated and seating is on a first come, first served basis. Graduates may invite as many guests as they would like, but must realize that seating under the tent is limited to 6 tickets per graduate. There will be no extra tickets given. Additional guests beyond the 6 who receive tickets for seats under the tent, may view the ceremony via a live stream from the comfort of the Campus Recreation Center Gymnasium.

Tickets will be available to those graduates who have been cleared and appear on the graduation list beginning on Thursday, March 1st. Tickets may be picked up in the Department of Special Events, 2nd Floor of the Admissions Building during the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Graduates must show a picture ID and sign for their tickets when picking them up. Graduates must pick up their tickets in person unless they are out of state/live too far away to come to campus to pick them up. If this is the case, please contact Laura Kutsaftis at (401) 254-3166 to make arrangements. Graduates participating in the ceremony must pick up their tickets by the end of the day, Wednesday, May 16.

Questions regarding the ceremonies can be directed to the Commencement Office at 401-254-3166.  Please check back regularly as this webpage will continue to be updated.
