Season Changes

You might want to bring a sweater!

“Spooky season” is here, and you know what that means. Apple cider, everything pumpkin spice, sweater weather, leaves are starting to change color…While all of this might be common for domestic students, it’s a whole new experience for plenty of international students. Multiple international students come from places that experience all four seasons. But for those who don’t, season changes are exciting, but shocking.

The scariest part is, of course, the temperature change. Most of us didn’t experience snow before coming here; something our domestic counterparts find hard to believe. Which is why we prepare weeks beforehand with an unreasonable amount of clothes we probably don’t need because we are dreading the colder weather. Little things like leaves changing colors, daylight saving, and closet changes excite us. Suddenly, holidays we used to celebrate back home like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas start having added value because we get to experience them in the context of a totally different culture than ours. The most exciting part of this process is getting to experience it with all of your new friends that have become your family away from home.
