Office Assistant - Education Department/Field Office

Job Description

This position would provide an education major with a strong understanding of teacher candidate preparation.They will gain hands-on experience with development of teacher preparation programs and will obtain a strong foundation of knowledge of state regulations for educators. They will be guided and mentored by a highly skilled and experienced educator and administrator.

Year 1:
Responsibility/Function

The first year, the student would support the field office by helping to support the implementation of our portfolio and field placement database - TaskStream. This program will track all student information for compliance with the Rhode Island Department of Education. This student would help to input current and historical data into the system to track the various types of placements, urban, suburban, rural..etc.

This would require extensive school demographic research and strong computer skills. We are approaching an accreditation year and this support would be extremely beneficial to both our reporting needs as well as the student to gain understanding of RIDE/state requirements, demographic information and various school environments.

Year 2:
Responsibility/Function

Our department will work to update and improve the current Field Guides and Handbooks. This is an extensive project that the student would work to help create these guides in compliance with RIDE. This would benefit the student in understanding the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards (RIPTS). As an Education student, this would provide strong insight into the expectations of an Educator.

If possible, the student will continue to support the responsibilities in year one.

Year 3:
Responsibility/Function

This year, the student would assume greater responsibility in preparing and delivering content for our seminars, workshops and professional development.  Which would include attending meetings to contribute to ideas for content, preparing event details, outreach to partners, etc.  The student will also serve as a participant at these events.
