Communities of Hope: Assistant Grant and Funding Developer and Writer

Job Description

Communities of Hope (CoH), a growing journalism and community news organization in the Department of Media, Design & Communication, is looking for a student to become our Assistant Grant and Funding Developer and Writer.

The primary role of the Assistant Grant and Funding Developer and Writer will be to assist CoH’s director and general manager in identifying, developing, and writing applications for grants and other funding opportunities.

The student working in this position will be expected to:

  • To assist with identifying good funding matches, budgeting, application writing, project development, and assessment for grants and other funding opportunities.
  • To assist with development of a pool of donors, grantors, and funding agencies to secure CoH’s financial health. 
    To coordinate with the staff working with other Communities of Hope programs to guarantee consistency and quality of the grant/funding applications.
  • To help CoH staff to build relationships with grantors, other funding agencies, and donors, including participating in meetings, communicating online, on the phone, or in person, and developing correspondence through multiple media platforms.

Special Skills Needed (You will learn most of it during the job): 
Managerial and organizational skills; Technical and professional writing (grant writing experience preferred but not necessary); Critical thinking; Communication and interpersonal skills (writing, speaking, presenting, active listening); Time management and flexibility

Academic Major Preferred: 
Any majors with organizational skills and a general understanding of news media and education programs may apply.
