Communications Assistant - Save the Bay – REMOTE!

Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented, data-driven, creative-minded individual seeking a career in communications? Are you interested in learning about the behind-the-scenes tasks that keep a nonprofit communications department effective and efficient?

Save The Bay is seeking a highly motivated student to remotely support its communications team in the areas of social media analysis, media monitoring and research, and website auditing—all of which directly support the organization’s efforts to effectively distribute mission-based content about protecting and improving Narragansett Bay! In addition to learning about and providing support to the communications tasks listed above, special tasks and projects will be customized for applicants with skills in any of the following concentration areas:

  • Photography and/or videography (Projects will include collecting and editing footage using Save The Bay equipment and editing software, including Creative Cloud programs and/or iMovie)
  • Graphic design (Projects will be completed using a combination of Canva and Adobe CC programs)
  • Writing (Projects will include writing copy for marketing and social media purposes, as well as blog posts and articles)

The position requires a minimum of 15 hours per week.

  • Experience analyzing social media metrics and making recommendations to improve reach and engagement
  • Experience with behind-the-scenes content maintenance and development
  • Experience developing an understanding of a media landscape and PR strategy
  • Experience applying your writing, photography, videography, or design skills to work in a professional setting.

What we require:

  • A passion for nonprofit work and the environment
  • An interest in data analysis, spreadsheet work, and findings reports
  • Superb research, writing, editing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media business principles and strategy (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram)
  • Familiarity with Wordpress, a plus
  • Creative vision and ability to work independently
  • High levels of initiative, curiosity, and attention to detail
