RWU Coronavirus Information

Students will not be returning to campus for the remainder of the spring semester. Instead they are learning remotely. RWU's Bristol campus is closed to pedestrian and recreational use. All events and campus tours have been canceled through April 30. We will continue to update the community regularly to keep you informed.

  • RWU COVID-19 Update

    As we have been hearing from government health authorities, this is the time to stay in our homes to the extent possible, practice social distancing, and not visit or congregate in large groups in order to limit the spread of COVID-19. RWU is taking seriously the guidance from the White House Coronavirus Task Force and the Rhode Island Governor’s Office to operate remotely and limit contact among groups of people.

    Preparations to transition RWU to online and alternate modes of instruction starting March 23 are well underway in response to developments of COVID-19. The campus community and all RWU families are at the top of minds in all of the planning and decisions we are making.

    We continue to make our decisions guided by the care of our community and in line with advisories from the Rhode Island Department of Health, which has advised all RI university leaders to begin aggressive containment measures and move to online learning. Although there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at RWU campuses, we are being mindful of protecting the health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, and of our surrounding community.

  • RWU COVID-19 Update

    With the health and well-being of our campus community as our top priority, and in alignment with guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) to initiate aggressive containment measures, Roger Williams University is enacting plans to transition to online and alternate modes of instruction for as long as necessary this semester. In order to be fully prepared to transition to contingency plans, the University is extending our student spring break by one week. While there are no known cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) within our campus community, we are taking these steps to limit exposure to the virus among our community, their families, and our neighbors.

  • Advisory on Coronavirus

    Please be advised that 15 students and one faculty member recently attended the CPAC Conference, from Feb. 26-29, in which a non-RWU attendee has since tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). None of the RWU conference attendees are exhibiting coronavirus symptoms in the week since the conference has ended. One of the conference attendees is following the recommendation of the Florida Department of Health to self-quarantine at this time.

  • Coronavirus and Spring Break Student Health Advisory - FAQs

    This Advisory in advance of Spring break is most applicable to undergraduate students commuting to the Bristol campus, living locally independently, or living in University housing. The advisory and Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) list is sent on behalf of the Emergency Response Team and also provides important information for University College students in Providence, School of Law and other Graduate students as well as faculty and staff in all locations. Additional Advisories will be shared on a regular basis.

  • Update on Coronavirus Impact on Spring Break Travel

    We are closely watching the evolving news of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak locally and globally, and have been adhering to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) advisories related to the virus. While this has been a global concern, particularly in Asia and Europe, we see the early reporting on how this virus is affecting us locally as well. The following are the recent actions we’ve taken to keep the campus community safe.

  • Update on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

    The University emergency response team (ERT) continues to monitor and assess our institutional planning related to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The University ERT is meeting frequently to discuss our supplies, procedures, and readiness to respond to the various scenarios that may occur in the weeks ahead.

  • Information on Coronavirus

    Roger Williams University is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and is following the recommendations put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). While the respiratory illness associated with coronavirus continues to spread, there has been no identified cases in Rhode Island or at RWU. To date, the CDC reports that the risk of contagion remains low in the United States.

  • Attention: Health Advisory

    The Center For Disease Control (CDC) has reported an ongoing outbreak of respiratory illness that is caused by a new coronavirus. First identified in Wuhan, China, one confirmed case of coronavirus has recently been identified in the United States. Coronavirus infections are spread the same way as other respiratory viruses, through infected people coughing and sneezing, by touching an infected person’s hands or face, or by touching things such as doorknobs that infected people have touched.
