RWU COVID-19 Update -- May 29, 2

Dear faculty and staff,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare for a slow, phased reopening and what it means for both our community and those around us. While the State of Rhode Island is entering Phase II of its economic reopening on June 1, RWU will continue with our current remote work policy until the University implements the appropriate safety measures to have our community begin to return safely to campus.

As the economy is slowly reopening, we are taking appropriate time to put plans in place that will consider the needs for protective equipment, the total number of employees that should return to working on campus, employee common spaces where social distancing will be challenging, among many other aspects that our planning groups are evaluating with thoughtfulness and care to protect our community.

Until we provide further guidance, RWU employees should continue to work remotely with only essential staff reporting to campus who already have been working on the premises throughout this time. All staff working on campus should be exercising appropriate measures for social distancing and wearing a face covering.

Please continue to use out-of-office messaging that indicates we are open remotely and will respond accordingly to emails and messages. Unless you are part of the essential staff currently working on campus, your office should remain closed.

One important development to share is that while the University grounds remain closed to general visitors, RWU will begin to restart offerings of campus tours of groups of 15 people or fewer, in accordance with guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health.

We will continue to communicate as we begin to implement phases of bringing employees back to campus.

Sincerely,
Emergency Response Team
