Global and International Co-Curricular Campus Programs

Each semester the SCGIP sponsors an array of global and international programs on campus designed to broaden horizons and promote engagement with the world.  The SCGIP develops a global and international program for each semester along with guest speakers, round-table or interest group discussions in addition to our regular sponsored or co-sponsored annual events such as International Education Week and Global Fest.

Summer Institutes

RWU's coastal campus on the shore of Narragansett Bay is a lovely location for summer institutes and we welcome students from countries around the world for summer programming.  Recent custom-designed programs have included Culture and Language Immersion program for students from the University of Shizuoka, Japan; New Business Venture Development and English for Business Purposes for the Wuhan University of Science and Technology, China; and a Transitional Summer Academy for participants in the Brazil Science Mobility Program.

Global Partnerships

The SCGIP continues to cultivate, maintain, and help initiate RWU global partnerships at home and abroad. These global partnerships provide outstanding opportunities for both our students and faculty members in global learning, teaching and research.  They also contribute to the development of a global campus community through the international exchange of students and faculty.

Middle East Partnership Initiative Civic Engagement Leadership Institute

Since 2008, RWU has partnered with the U.S. State Department Middle East Partnership Initiative to run the RWU MEPI Civic Engagement Leadership Institute, an intensive 6-week summer program for university student leaders from across the Middle East and North Africa region.  The institute includes an academic leadership seminar; team building and conflict resolution workshops; and meetings with men and women who lead diverse institutions serving the public good in a wide variety of ways. Participants engage with community members and gain greater insight into the foundations of American society through complementary cultural activities.  Field programs to New York City; Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Seattle, Washington, provide opportunities to learn about diverse communities and an array of issues involving civil society, intergovernmental organizations, philanthropy, and social entrepreneurship, and corporate social responsibility.

Brazil Science Mobility Program

In 2014, RWU welcomed its first cohort of students to the Brazil Science Mobility Program @RWU.  Through this program, Brazilian students study for a full academic year at RWU, and then pursue academic training in the following months.  This program is part of the Brazilian government's larger initiative to grant 100,000 Brazilian university students the opportunity to study abroad at the world's best colleges and universities.  The Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (Ciência sem Fronteiras) is sponsored by CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) and CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico).  The U.S. program is administered by the Institute for International Education.

Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays Faculty and Scholar Exchange

RWU is committed to opportunities for faculty to build collaborations and develop expertise across borders.  A variety of opportunities have been developed to facilitate global engagement of faculty.  Examples include a Fulbright-Hayes Group Seminar to Egypt which examined the country's complex sociocultural dynamics in the light of the Arab Spring, and a Fulbright-Hays-sponsored faculty development program focusing on Sustainability Studies in Turkey.  Additionally, RWU is please to host Fulbright Scholars from other countries, and proud of our faculty and administrators who serve as Fulbright Ambassadors abroad through Fulbright Scholar Exchange initiatives.
