No Mow May

RWU is participating in No Mow May, a conservation initiative encouraging the creation of pollinator and wildlife habitat by allowing lawns to grow unmown for the month of May.

Sustainable Futures  is a key strategic priority in RWU's Strategic Action Plan. This year, to promote pollinator habitat on campus, RWU is participating in No Mow May

No Mow May was launched in 2019 by the U.K. charity Plantlife. It encourages people to stop mowing their lawns for the month of May. As a citizen science experiment, Plantlife asked No Mow May participants to collect data on flower species in their unmown lawns. Their data found that forgoing mowing for four weeks led to a tenfold increase in the amount of nectar available to pollinators in the selected spaces.

This year, RWU will join the No Mow May movement to increase pollinator and wildlife diversity and habitat on campus. See below for a map of locations that will be left to grow freely for the month of May.
