Hometown:

Raleigh, North Carolina

What I was doing before RWU:

I was pursuing my B.S. in Psychology at North Carolina Central University.

My future plans:

I plan on working towards my licensure and working in either a psychiatric hospital, correctional facility, and/or non-profit. I hope to work with offenders and survivors of sexual trauma.

My favorite parts of my student experience at RWU:

I’ve enjoyed getting to know my cohort and attending GSA events like going to see Hamilton or experience the sunset cruise. My practicum experience has also taught me so much about psychopathology, bridging the gap between the legal system and mental health, and taking what I’ve learned from the classroom and applying it to real-life examples. Lastly, I’ve enjoyed our professors and listening to their experiences and insight.

Best advice for students planning to go to graduate school:

Start early. It is never too early to research and start on your application. Create a timeline for when you want to have your application done. Attend an open house, go to an informational session, and talk with Marcus, Courtney, or one of the ambassadors. They are here to answer your questions and help you with the grad school process.

Also, learn how to prioritize your work. Grad school is more hands-on than undergrad was. Prepare to complete longer and in-depth papers and projects. Although grad school may seem like a daunting task, you can handle it by managing your time wisely and taking care of yourself. Learn and absorb as much information as you can and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Favorite things to do in the area:

Nacho Mama’s and Aiden’s Pub are great places for a bite to eat. If you’re in the Providence area, the Providence Place Mall, the WaterFire lighting exhibit, and Roger Williams Park are great places to go and explore. There are so many beautiful and historic sites around Bristol, including the Linden Place museum.
