Reinvest in RWU

To Students and Families,

Thank you for considering my request to reinvest your room and board credit in support of Roger Williams University.

We know these have been challenging times and that every member of our community must make the best decisions for the health and well-being of their families.

Likewise, Roger Williams has taken drastic cost cutting measures to mitigate the impact of the $11.1 million deficit represented by the refunded room and board credits. Beginning April 4, the University furloughed 17% of RWU employees in the areas of food service, athletics, students services and administration, asked all remaining staff and faculty to take a collective 10% pay cut (with the President’s Cabinet taking a voluntary 15% reduction), and cancelled all conferences, travel, campus events until July 1, 2020. Even with these measures, the University will not bridge the gap needed to balance our budget year which ends on June 30, 2020.

However, even in dark times, strong communities rise together. RWU has seen a tremendous outpouring of generosity that has touched us deeply and given us hope. Our Trustees and many loyal supporters have increased their philanthropic support, alumni have offered to volunteer to support current students and many parents and students have come forward to reinvest all or part of their room and board credits in support of the University. These acts are a testament to our incredible community and will help RWU weather this crisis and come back strong in the fall.

We understand every family and every student is in a unique position at this time. Therefore, we are only asking families that are able to consider this request. Every dollar of support will help us to bring back the wonderful people that make Roger Williams such a special place. We look forward to welcoming you back to campus and beginning the 2020-2021 school year together.

Thank you again for your consideration.

My best to you and your family for a safe and healthy spring,

Yannis Miaoulis
President, Roger Williams University
