Dr. Julie Coon is an Associate Professor in the School of Justice Studies at Roger Williams University. She earned her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati in 2005. Dr. Coon worked as a research assistant mapping crime for the Forest Park, OH police department for two years and was a participant in an 18 month long observational project of police officers in Ohio. Dr. Coon also served as Project Director for a National Institute of Justice funded grant examining the role of law enforcement in schools. More recently, Dr. Coon has been involved in several research projects including conducting citizen satisfaction surveys for local police departments, surveying Rhode Island law enforcement officers about policing in diverse communities, contributing to efforts to revitalize Broad Street in Washington Park, Providence, and is currently examining New England high school principals' perceptions regarding the effectiveness of school safety measures. Dr. Coon teaches numerous courses including Crime Prevention, Policing in America, Criminal Justice System Overview, and Research Methods in Criminal Justice, and has published in the areas of crime prevention, policing, and school security.
