Maija Benitz joined Roger Williams University in the fall of 2017, after teaching physics and mathematics in Washington State. She received her M.S. and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has a B.A. in Physics from the Colorado College.
Dr. Benitz’s research focuses on simulating ocean hydrodynamics using computational fluid dynamics. Her doctoral research applied these methods to the platforms for offshore floating wind turbines.
At Roger Williams, she teaches ENGR 110 – Engineering Graphics and Design, ENGR 115 – Computer Applications for Engineers, ENGR 340 – Sustainable Energy Systems. She serves as an advisor for the student group of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
