Rebecca Rachel Rokicki is a last semester Senior at Roger Williams University with a job lined up at Hensel Phelps! Get to know Rebecca with this Q&A:
What is your major/minor?
Major: Construction Management
Minors: Business and Sustainability
What internships have you had?
Gilbane, Inc. internship – I processed paperwork and also kept record of daily progress. Gilbane taught me a lot about the logistics/project management side of a project.
Hensel Phelps Construction Co. Internship – I spent summer 2014 in the estimating department at HP. I learned a lot more about the process of estimating and all the hard work and documentation that goes into a Bid Proposal. In addition, I learned how to communicate more effectively by leaving a paper-trail.
What major projects have you been apart of?
My capstone project consisted of remodeling the Twin River Casino. We created a schedule, estimate, logistics plan and safety plan. This project was a great way to test our abilities and strengthen our weaknesses before entering the workforce. The team I was on placed first place- that was a great accomplishment.
Have you been a part of any competitions?
Last year I participated on the Design-Build team of the ASC Regional Competition. This semester, I am the captain of the Heavy Highway team. My teammates and I are hoping that we will place in the top 3 this year; That would be a great way to end the semester and my time as a student at RWU. We have all put in a lot of effort and the team has grown significantly. Watching the team thrive the way it has been is a great accomplishment.
What are your post-grad goals?
I signed my offer letter with Hensel Phelps last month. Going into my final semester with a job already lined up was a huge accomplishment. Now, I am looking forward to going beyond my employer’s expectation and showing the company what I can offer. I’d also like to design and build a house that is considered “off the grid”. I hope to have my dream house build within the next ten years.
