First Year Design Studio
This first studio course is structured as a progressive series of exercises that build upon each other, i.e. design process as a critical response to that which precedes it. By engaging in the process of purposeful making, students develop the vital critical thinking, spatial understandings, and representational skills that inform architectural design. Projects are organized around iterative exercises that engage with various design principles, topics and developmental skills. The sequence builds in complexity, as students engage a range of projects from simple forms of shelter for socialization, to more challenging projects that have complex programmatic, site and material considerations.
