Aaron C. Allen is an Assistant Professor of American Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from University of Maryland, College Park and an M.A. in Afro-American Studies from University of California, Los Angeles. His research focuses on the politics of race, representation, and identity during the post-Civil Rights era as well as Critical University Studies.
Dr. Allen’s pedagogical approach uses theory-based knowledge with grounded, empirical examples so that students are equipped to think critically about course material in the context of their everyday lives and the world around them from a historically situated perspective. His courses take an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach, incorporating critical race theory, queer and feminist studies, post-colonial theory and interdisciplinary research methods.
