Guilherme Machado Vaz was born in Porto (Portugal) in 1974. Graduated at ‘Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto’ (FAUP) in 1998, and was collaborator at Eduardo Souto de Moura’s office between 1996/1997. Architect at Matosinhos Municipality since 2000, has produced among other works, the Custóias Civic Center; Custóias Football Club; the Garden pavillion and, more recently, Casa da Arquitectura and OJM headquarters at Real Vinícola. His office produces mainly residential projects such as the Valley House, João’s House and Afife House, among others. In 2008 worked as Team Architect for David Chipperfield Architects, on a residential project in ‘Bom Sucesso, Golf Resort and Spa’, Óbidos.
He has a PhD in architecture at Universidade Lusófona do Porto (2020), where he taught regularly since 2012. Currently professor at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra since 2021. Additionally, has been a visiting teacher at Politecnico di Milano, Piacenza, (2017); at Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain (2019). He has lecture in several national and foreign institutions, and was the workshop leader at Porto Academy 2015 (FAUP) and Wa.ve 2016 (IUAV Venezia). He is also chairman of the General Meeting of the Architectural Association (2020-2022), and served as jury for the FAD awards in 2008 and Archiprix in 2019.
