E-Mailing Counseling Center

We at the Roger Williams University Counseling Center want to hear from you. However, because of the deeply personal service we provide, we also place a high value on your privacy and our ability to best serve you. Therefore, we want to take a moment to clarify the appropriate use of e-mail as a tool in your contacting us. We hope that these guidelines help you to decide the best way to reach our staff.

Services

If you are struggling with a personal problem or are concerned about someone you know, the best way to contact us is by phone (at 254-3124) or by stopping by our office. While we try to check our e-mail regularly, you have no way of knowing if one of us is unavailable due to illness, vacation, computer problems, etc.

For these and other reasons, we absolutely do not offer on-line counseling. It is very important that we limit the use of this e-mail for comments or general questions about our services, for feedback on our web page, or for other purposes explicitly stated within the web site (such as contacting a staff member who provides his/her e-mail address for specific reasons).

If your situation is urgent, RWU students are encouraged to call us or to stop by the office.

E-mail confidentiality

We cannot guarantee that your e-mail will remain confidential. We will do our best to keep your communications private but do not have control over the flaws in Internet technology or other administrative policies regarding monitoring of e-mail. If you are in any way concerned about the contents of your e-mail being read by someone other than the person you are contacting, you should consider alternative ways of contacting us.

When we respond to your e-mail, we will respond to the address from which it is sent. If you do not wish others who may have access to the e-mail account that you are using to also have access to our response, please consider another means of communication.

If you are not a Roger Williams University student
We realize that with Internet technology, many of you who are not RWU students or prospective students will come across our web site. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to provide services to non-students but we do welcome comments or questions about our services and this web site.

How quickly may you expect a reply?

We welcome your comments and hope to respond to any questions, comments, or suggestions that you make. We will make every effort to respond when requested to do so. At times, however, we will be focusing more efforts to meet the high demand for counseling services or presentation of workshops, and less time will be available to respond promptly during certain times of each semester. Again, if you need an immediate response to a question or concern, contact us by phone or by stopping by the office.

Having said that, we look forward to hearing from you. If you are unable to e-mail us directly from your browser, just jot down our e-mail address. You may reach Jim Azar, the director of the Center, at jazar@rwu.edu
