John J. King joined the Roger Williams University community as Chief Student Affairs officer during summer 2004. John has worked within higher education as a student affairs professional since 1984.
For the previous 12 years, John worked at Stonehill College, most recently as Associate Vice President & Dean of Student Affairs and previously in the positions of Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life.
Before his Stonehill experience John worked at Holy Cross for 6 years as an Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Intramural Sports. A member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, he has served on the Region One advisory board, chaired a regional conference, and served as co-coordinator of volunteers for a national conference.
He holds a BS in Administration of Law and Justice and a BA in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and his master's degree in Counselor Education from Plymouth State College in N.H. where he served as a Residence Director and Asst. Wrestling Coach.
Dr. King received his doctorate from University of Massachusetts-Boston Higher Education & Leadership program, where his research was on social norms theory.
Dr. Kathleen McMahon arrived in her new position during summer 2004 and has primary responsibility supervising leadership positions in the Department of Student Life (Residence Life, Housing), the office of Judicial Affairs and Community Standards, and the Office of Multicultural & International Student Affairs.
Kathleen spent the previous 2 years as Dean of Students & Chief Student Affairs officer at Marlboro College in Vermont. Previously, Kathleen served as an Associate Dean of Students at UCLA for 7 years where she also taught several courses centered on leadership and service learning.
In addition, Kathleen worked for 2 years as a Residence Director at Boston University and has 5 years of related professional experience in counseling and social work in a variety of settings.
She holds a Doctor of Education degree from UCLA in Educational Leadership and her dissertation explored the development of a leadership program for female college students.
A graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a BA in Philosophy, she also earned an M.S. from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work.
Allison Chase Padula came to Roger Williams in 2001 from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. Where she served as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Class Dean. Previously, Padula was Coordinator of Disability Services at Babson.
At Roger Williams, Allison is primarily responsible for directing our Orientation program and provides supervision for leadership in Health Services, coordinates medical leaves, major campus programs and advises several organizations.
She has made presentations at many national conferences on the subject of learning disabled students and their families.
A long-time resident of Bristol, Padula received a bachelor of arts degree in speech communication and a master of science degree in human development and family service with a concentration in college student personnel from the University of Rhode Island.
Heidi Hartzell is the Director of the Office of Judicial Affairs and Community Standards. She earned her B.A. at Siena College in English/Communications and her M.A. at Bowling Green State University in College Students Personnel.
Heidi started working at Roger Williams University in 1998 as a Coordinator of Residential Education.
A few of Heidi's campus involvements include: serving on the Sexual Assault Task Force, and serving on the Homecoming Committee. She has professional experience in judicial affairs, student activities, leadership development, Greek affairs, residence life, and advising multicultural organizations.
Heidi holds memberships in the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA). She has received 2 national awards from ASJA.
Peggy Deston joined the ranks of student affairs in 1990 where she began as secretary in the Student Life Office. In 2000, Deston became Administrative Assistant in the central Student Affairs Office.
Peggy is a proud graduate of RWU, receiving her B.A. degree in communications from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2001. Peggy is a mentor in the Student Success Program. She is an avid baseball fan and participant in performing arts and community theatre.
