Farnaz Mahbub

Hi! My name is Farnaz Mahbub. I am originally from Bangladesh, a small country right beside India. Currently I am in my junior year at Roger Williams. I came here with a desire to become someone special in the field of psychology. As a result I am majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice as in the future I want to get into forensics.

From the very first day I stepped on campus at roger Williams, I felt really welcomed and appreciated as part of the community here. Roger Williams is a small private university that is knit together with love, care, support and concern for one another. Moreover, every student that goes to this university is highly respectful of others which make it a very comfortable place to be at.

Before coming here, I have had heard horror stories about how universities can put you through hardships. Many people, including my sister told to be careful of the people I meet on campus and the people that live around me. My friends told me about their bad experiences, where something valuable was stolen or how they had difficulty fitting in. For me, it was all the opposite. Roger Williams campus is very safe, and the students trust each other very much. The dormitories are fairly good and provide all necessities.

As far as academics are concerned, then I would have to say Roger Williams works really hard towards it. The professors are all extremely understanding and supportive. The student teacher ratio is amazing. Professors are always around for extra assistance and are even willing to go out of their way to help you succeed. It is very easy to develop a good relationship with the teachers over here, and that is a key factor in education. The highlight of Roger Williams is the fact that the professors are committed to help their students grow both academically and personally. There is also a tutoring center where students go for help regarding Math, English and a few other courses. This truly conveys that the university strives to help its students in every way possible. Additionally, there are various clubs and activities that you can be a part of at Roger Williams. I take chorus, and have also had the opportunity to work at the admissions office for a whole semester.

The location of the university is a plus point. Bristol, Rhode Island is quiet and peaceful. This provides a good environment for studying. There is a bay that overlooks the university and is a pleasant visit. The campus is fairly small and is designed in a circle, which makes it really easy to find places within the campus. As a freshman, I hardly ever got lost or had trouble getting around on campus. Also, the university has shuttles that will take you to nearby banks and pharmacies whenever required. Even more, the local bus stops right by the main entrance of the university making mobility very easy.

Well. Enough said. The rest is for you to join and find out. I will not say that Roger Williams is the perfect fit for every one of you, but I can guarantee that it is a satisfying place and will keep you happy. So take my words into consideration before making a decision!

Loong Fat Ho

Loong Fat HoHi, my name is Loong Fat and I’m from Aruba, a small tropical Caribbean Island. I am currently double majoring in Marine Biology and Chemistry here at Roger Williams University. I am also an Honors student here and I am/have been the Honors Program’s President for the 2004-2005 period. Aside from that, I am also a member of ßßß Biological Honor Society and Secretary (2003-2005) of the Marine Science Club.

A big part of my life here at RWU is the Marine Lab in the Marine and Natural Science Building. I am a project leader there studying the culturing (among other things) of clownfish, yes, Nemo, tons of Nemos, down there in the lab. Aside from that I also manage and co-overview the running of all the Marine Lab experiments along with the other six project leaders. I also work with other species of fish like Jawfish and I do research on mercury contamination in RI fish with one of our professors here. So there is always a lot to do there in the lab. But one of the best parts is getting to meet all the people who come through the lab and get to explain what we are doing, that there is a lot to learn form the environment and why it is important for us to conserve it; there is more to clownfish than just white and orange stripes…

Cintia Hayashi

Cintia HayashiHi, my name is Cintia Hayashi, and I am from Paraguay. My parents are Japanese, but I was born and raised in the “heart” of South America. I am now a graduate student at RWU pursuing a degree in Architecture and a minor in Visual Arts.

RWU has been a great experience, not only in terms of academics but also in terms of personal growth. I have learned to balance various aspects of my life, including a demanding major along with other things such as my duties as a Resident Assistant.

College is a great opportunity for you to expand on your academic interest and at the same time expand your mind. In order to be successful during this time, I would encourage you to come with an open mind and be willing to learn from others and allow others to learn from you.

Feel free to email me with any questions, concerns or just to chat!

I hope you can join us soon!
