Traditionally, SAFE does a week of programming for National Coming Out Week which is the second week of October. We also advertise for Blue Jeans Day, which is an event where everyone is supposed to wear blue jeans and a white T-shirt to show support for the GLBT community. An AIDS vigil on December 1st, World AIDS Day, is also done on campus.
SAFE Events
Occasionally, movies are shown that coincide with GLBT topics. SAFE has hosted a table at the info fair prior to the Vagina Monologues. A few of our members have also volunteered to share their Coming Out stories in some Human Behavior classes on campus.
Day of Silence
In April, there is the National Day of Silence. It is a day where those who support creating safe schools for GLBT people take a nine hour vow of silence to recognize and protest the harassment, prejudice, and discrimination, in effect, the silencing that GLBT people face. We hand out cards explaining why we are silent.
