Program Involvement Levels

BTS consists of three primary sites that utilize some of our seventeen mentors who work with our sixty registered mentees over the course of the school year.

These three sites are:

  1. Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island
  2. The Martin Luther King Center in Newport, Rhode Island
  3. TIMES2 Academy in Providence, Rhode Island
Rogers High School

Rogers High School consisted of twelve mentors being transported to the high school over three afternoon days...Tuesdays, Wendesdays, and Thursdays. From 1:50 to 3:30 PM we would provide tutoring/mentoring to whatever number of mentees that would show.

This number ranged from two to twelve on any one of these days. Also, on Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM we had two mentors drive themselves to provide a variety of services ranging from mentoring, to college placement, to class visitations, teacher/counselor appointments, and to lunch time mentoring.

Martin Luther King Center

The Martin Luther King Center consisted of three mentors being transported to service anywhere from two to ten mentees.  They mostly tutored these seventh and eighth graders, from Thompson Middle School, who would be members of the MLKC's After School Program.  If there were no students with homework they would play educational games with them.

TIMES2 Academy

TIMES2 Academy consisted of seven mentors tutoring anywhere from five to twenty-five students who would be having difficulty with their studies.  This program was especially helpful because they not only received help with their math and English skills but also made new friends with these college age students.  In addition, the eleventh and tenth graders received help with their SAT preparation and were very pleased with the results.
