Job Description:

The Department of Marketing & Communications at Roger Williams University is seeking student writers with an interest in print and digital publications to join the News and Publications RWU magazine team for Fall 2013. As a member of the team, you will gather story ideas and write compelling stories, assist in idea generation, content planning and artwork selection to accompany assigned stories.

Who You Are:

To start, you’re a solid writer with more tools in your bag than just a pen. You’re a creative thinker who strives to see the big picture, but can also transform a conceptual story idea down into a compelling article with a discernable angle. You like to know what’s going on across campus and are proud to be a student at RWU. You enjoy conversing with people – even if you’ve just met them – and are a good listener. Maybe you’re a communication major; perhaps you study creative writing. You’re definitely not afraid to get on the phone – or meet in person – and ask questions. Attentive to detail, organized, inquisitive – you get the picture.

Who We Are:

Strategists. Content creators. Project managers. If it’s major publications, University news and priority writing projects at RWU, we’re involved. In addition to those large-scale communications projects, our team provides on‐campus clients with publications strategy, editing, proofreading and writing assistance as needed. Together, we work with members of the University community to make sure each project meets both the needs of the client and institution, adheres to RWU brand identity and editorial standards successfully communicates the intended message to its intended audiences.

Special Skills:
Excellent writing skills that can be demonstrated by writing samples
Editing and proofreading experience
Solid verbal communications skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
General computer skills and the ability to learn new computer applications
Reliability, responsibility and commitment as well as a strong willingness to take initiative
