Adult Sailing Lessons and Youth Sailing Camps Offered at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I., June 2008 – Now that Rhode Island is experiencing gorgeous summer days, don’t you wish you could spend your days sailing? For those who want to learn the ins and outs of sailing the seas, adults and children can sign up for sailing lessons or youth sailing camps at Roger Williams University.
Adults can choose between two sailing sessions: Session 1 runs from June 24 to July 10, and Session 2 runs from July 15 to July 31. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The lessons are geared toward beginners (although intermediate sailors are welcome to register) and will cover topics including safety, wind direction, navigation and sailing techniques. Registration is $150 per session.
For pre-teens and teens, three youth sailing camps are available, two beginner sessions and one intermediate session. The beginner camps run from June 23 to July 3 (Session 1) and July 7 to July 18 (Session 2); the intermediate camp runs from July 21 to Aug. 1. All camps are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees must be 12 to 16 years old. Topics will include safety, rigging, knots, maneuvering and safe seamanship. Registration is $300 per session.
All students will learn how to sail Flying Juniors, small two- to three-person sailboats. All lessons will be held on the University’s waterfront on Mount Hope Bay. Roger Williams University is located at One Old Ferry Road in Bristol, R.I.
